Paper Abstract
Migraine is a chronic neurovascular disorder affecting predominantly working-age individuals and carries a significant personal and socioeconomic burden. The aim of this study was to evaluate clinical characteristics and main migraine triggers in males and females, with a focus on gender-specific differences. A cross-sectional study was conducted at a multidisciplinary hospital and included 64 patients aged 18–50 years (12 men and 52 women). All participants underwent neurological examination and completed structured questionnaires assessing demographics, clinical features, and triggers. In both sexes, the majority had migraine without aura: 83.3% in men and 86.5% in women. Weather changes were a significant trigger in men (33.3% vs. 9.6%, p = 0.05; OR 3.47, 95% CI 1.09–11.01), while dietary irregularities were associated with higher attack frequency and pulsating pain both with p = 0.044 and p = 0.047. Nausea occurred in 65.6% of patients, vomiting in 26.5%, and photo-/phonophobia in about 40%. about 40%. Correlation analysis showed that physical activity was moderately linked to migraine intensity (r = 0.4) and photophobia to attack severity (r = 0.4). The results emphasize the role of gender and environmental factors in migraine pathogenesis and justify personalized prevention strategies depending on the trigger profile and lifestyle.
