The central purpose of this study was to look over William Blake’s The Chimney Sweeper from Songs of Innocence (1789) to examine emotional engagement and moral awareness through analytical reading. Reader-response theory was used as a theoretical foundation and the relationship between the reader and text was examined by analyzing literary elements in the poem. The findings showed the importance of emotion and moral response to the literary works which enhance literature learning. Emotional engagement was found as a bridge connecting literary understanding and moral awareness. The final result revealed that the poem has a significant impact on students’ moral reflections through their emotional engagement. Reader-response theory strengthened this view and showed promising results contributing literal understanding and learning input in literature classrooms.
